Freelancer
Meet
with various individuals, businesses, industries, and organizations
to discuss and establish marketing goals. A variety of visually
effective ads, publications, marketing tools, and websites are
then created to meet specific needs, budgets and timelines.
Knowledgeable with Photoshop, Illustrator, Pagemaker, InDesign
and Dreamweaver.
2000-2006: Project Manager/Web
Designer – GO Concepts, Inc., Lebanon,
Ohio
Responsible for the organization, creation and
development of multiple web sites. Duties involve creating, directing
and tracking each job area including graphic design, copy/content
development, HTML and database programming. Responsible for keeping
each member of our team aware of his or her reponsibilities,
requirements and deadlines. Other duties involve interacting
with the clients, informing them of project status, needed materials
and required scheduling. Also create visually attractive and
professional web sites from conception through completion performing
as graphic designer and project manager.
1992-1994: Art Director/Computer
Graphics – Kimberley
Press, Ltd., Des Moines, Iowa
Graphic Design
Met with various clients, editors and sales staff to coordinate
ideas and production for a variety of publications. Responsible
for the initial design, typesetting, computer graphics, layouts,
proofing, photography and pre-press artwork. Final design work
was completed using Quark Xpress. This encompassed all graphics,
trapping, color
seperations, scanning and placement of high-res scans. Responsible
for approving and outputting layouts directly to film. Responsible
for checking bluelines and color proofs as well as press checks.
Photography
Art directed photography which included placement and propping
items and selecting backgrounds – painting them if necessary
or supervising their construction. Approved initial photos for
correct lighting, placement of props and representation of product.
Selected final transparencies to be used in each publication.
Organized and directed location shots and the use of models when
necessary. Items photographed varied from home goods, to whole
room sets, to original ideas for publication covers.
Computer Graphics
Converted
the art department to desktop publishing. Responsible for implementing,
troubleshooting and training
artists on programs such as Quark
Xpress, Illustrator, Freehand, Pagemaker and Photoshop. Trained
art
department on the use of the modem,
server and scanner. Worked closely with the pre-press department
on
scanning half-tones and color transparencies,
as well as trapping and outputting film for one color to four-color
process.
Involved in the purchasing and networking of computers, servers,
scanners, color proofing system and
linotype machine.
1990-1992: Art Director/Computer
Graphics – Truepenny
Studios, Des Moines, Iowa
Graphic Design
Main focus was catalog design. Duties involved meeting with a
variety of clients and creating printed publications and/or
photography to meet their specific needs. Management duties
involved client contact, visual conception, layout, supervising
production and coordinating schedules for each phase of production
and meeting those deadlines. Other duties included marking
color breaks, copy-fitting, approving bluelines, color proofs
and chromalins.
Photography
Coordinated photography needs with in-house photographers. Included
selecting and supervising the construction of backgrounds, props,
models, special effects and lighting for each shot. Worked
with warehouse to have items pulled and prepped for photography.
Approved each initial photo for correct lighting, placement
of props and representation of product. Selected final transparencies
to be used.
Computer Graphics
Instrumental in converting art department to Quark Xpress and completing
final layouts using this program. Trained artists and production
staff on computer programs, scanning, color laser proofing and
modem use. Worked with Creative Services Manager to purchase
and install computer networking, modem, scanner, and color laser
proofing. Coordinated work with clients who began to use the
computer.
1989-1990: Art Director/Graphic
Designer – Federal
Home Loan Bank, Des Moines, Iowa
Responsible for development, organization
and management of an in-house graphic arts department. Defined
goals for this area and implemented them in daily procedures.
Management duties included planning, organizing and coordinating
the production of publications through visual conceptualization
to final evaluation of the printed pieces. Steps included:
concept, paste-up, desktop publishing, press proofs, scheduling,
and receiving cost estimates from various printers. Publications
range from two-color to
eight-color. Other responsibilities included the production of
a monthly newsletter.
1986-1989: Publications Services
Director – Simpson
College, Indianola, Iowa
Responsible for scheduling and organizing
all publications at Simpson College. Main focus was on brochures,
posters, books and mailers that promoted recruitment and fundraising.
Duties involved visual conception, production, typesetting, and
desktop publishing, Knowledgeable with a variety of papers, their
weights and textures and how they respond to different printing
techniques. Calculated paper needs for each budget year. Ordered
paper by bulk from paper warehouses and scheduled shipments to
printers as needed. Received cost estimates from printers to
achieve cost-effective, time-managed goals. Familiar with four-color
process, pre-press production and printing techniques. Responsible
for checking chromalins, bluelines and press proofs. Other duties
included managing departmental printing budgets and training
work-study students.
